Richard Berry

Author of the frat-rock anthem, "Louie Louie", Richard Berry originally sold his publishing rights to the then-obscure song 1957 for $750.00 to pay for his wedding. It wasn't until 1964 when the Kingsmen recorded their unintelligible version of this simple Jamaican love song that "Louie Louie" became part of American folklore – even investigated by the FBI for its alleged X-rated lyrics. Thirty years later, Artists rights assisted Richard in regaining part ownership of his song which he was then able to sell for millions of dollars.
