Richard Berry

Author of the frat-rock anthem, "Louie Louie", Richard Berry originally sold his publishing rights to the then-obscure song 1957 for $750.00 to pay for his wedding. It wasn't until 1964 when the Kingsmen recorded their unintelligible version of this simple Jamaican love song that "Louie Louie" became part of American folklore even investigated by the FBI for its alleged X-rated lyrics. Thirty years later, Artists rights assisted Richard in regaining part ownership of his song which he was then able to sell for millions of dollars. |
