Dixie Cups

These three family members from New Orleans will forever be known for their classic recordings of “Chapel Of Love” and “Iko Iko”.

After they wrote and recorded “Iko Iko” in 1963, their music publisher and international copyright holder not only refused to pay them any royalties, but falsely named additional persons as songwriters to decrease their share. Nonetheless, their publishing company received hundreds of thousands of dollars in income, keeping it all for themselves.

In April 2002, a jury sitting in the Federal Court in New Orleans not only awarded the Dixie Cups almost half a million dollars, but also ordered their publishing company to transfer its interest in the international copyright to the Dixie Cups.
